Agent Dale Cooper, who regularly discusses his dreams with his F.B.I. colleagues, Twin Peaks: FIre Walk WIth Me, David Lynch, 1992
Last night I dreamed that I had been cast in the lead male role of a production of Tchaikovsky's opera The Queen of Spades, to be directed by Martin Scorsese. And that I went around telling everybody I knew that this was happening, and getting nervous because rehearsals were beginning soon. And then the reality of the dream shifted, and I understood that I had not been cast in the lead male role of a production of Tchaikovsky's opera The Queen of Spades, to be directed by Martin Scorsese, because (among other things) I am not an opera singer. But as rehearsals and the production itself approached, I had to go back and tell everyone that I had bragged to about it that I had been lying. This was all quite disconcerting and anxiety-provoking.
