Introduced to the idea of commonplace books by Auden's A CERTAIN WORLD in the '60's, I have sustained the habit of preserving choice texts since then. When you present passages like this without a named purpose, you seem to be opening your commonplace to the rest of us to share. Coover's UNIVERSAL BASEBALL was another '60's book that made a lasting impression and, after reading this, I'm going to make sure I've kept a copy.
