This morning at The Auteurs', I discuss why Antonioni and Blu-ray disc are two great tastes that taste great together; BFI's wonderful high-def rendering of Red Desert is the topic of today's Foreign Region DVD Report.

I wish I could see this film. It seems like it's right up my formalist alley. Too bad I don't have a multi-region player.
Great review.

Region-free players are cheap, Tony. You should take the plunge.

Bill,
I haven't seen any region-free Blu-ray players for lower than $350. Not to mention the cost of the actual foreign Blu-ray discs.

Glenn,
if you wouldn't mind, could you post which region free blu-ray you have and maybe a link. Does B&H carry it?

@ Matt: I wouldn't mind in the abstract, but in reality your question is rather loaded. My multi-region Blu-ray player is not SUPPOSED to be multi-region, it is made that by way of a samizdat firmware update that allows you to toggle between regions via a remote-fed code. I"ve got the machine permanently set for multi-region SD and Region B Blu-ray playback, as my Playstation 3 handles Region A and domestic SD. Region C has not yet become relevant to my DVD needs. In any case, if I tell you the machine is from a company whose name contains two of the same vowels and two of the same consonants, and is known as a multi-region friendly firm, and that it is the company's much-vaunted Blu-ray player, would that be useful? It's more expensive than the multi-region Blu-ray player touted at DVD Beaver...but I like it!
