"Is Wolverine the comic book equivalent of Hal Ashby and Waldo Salt’s Coming Home with mutant powers? No." —David Poland

I used to really enjoy reading Poland but he has lost his marbles as of late. He is so concerned with being the entertainment media watchdog that he has pretty much all but ceased to write about actualy movies, and when he does you get nonsense like this. Just ask the guys at Reverse Shot what they think about this idiot. Also, he has no sense of humor.

What's the big deal? It's not like he's wrong. WOLVERINE probably ISN'T anything like COMING HOME.
My favorite thing about Poland, apart from the fact that he can't write and has no sense of humor and thinks he's funny even though he isn't, is that he apparently views himself as some sort of media journalism white knight. The one good cop in a bad town kind of thing. I don't know, I just think that's cute.

@Bill: Indeed; Mr. Poland's recent evocation of himself as a "white suit in a shit storm" was both entirely ridiculous and rather poignant. I know it's good to care about your subject matter, but his sense of proportion verges on the insane. Nukes could be going off in every corner of the globe, and he'd still be throwing fits over Nikki FInke not crediting Patrick Goldstein, or some such thing. Whatever Poland's schtick is not (journalism, for instance), it is very good theater...

The Hot Blog these days consists solely of Poland lecturing about journalistic standards (which is like Dick Cheney lecturing to me about the Constitution) and then having flame wars with the same 10-12 malcontents who compete with one another to see who can come across as more ignorant and film-illiterate.
It's like the group therapy sessions in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" with David Poland playing Nurse Ratched.

Poland's white suit sets off his tan to perfection.

I removed myself from the Hot Blog in the nick of time.

Aris, I'm assuming your words are welcoming. So therefore, thanks!
