In Osaka Elegy (Naniwa ereji), Kenji Mizoguchi, 1936
In Throne of Blood (Kumonoso-jo), Akira Kurosawa, 1957.
Her excellent New York TImes obituary is by the very able Dennis Lim.

I've only seen her work with Kurosawa (Mizoguchi and Ozu being on my very long list of filmmakers whose work I mean to get into, having only seen UGETSU for the former and TOKYO STORY for the latter; since I loved both films, I have no excuse for not having explored them further), but I still remember her absolutely chilling performance in THRONE OF BLOOD. I don't rate the film as high as other Kurosawa fans - it feels oddly muted at times - but she was absolutely spellbinding throughout. R.I.P.
