Devotees of cinematic realism, who seems to jump out of the woodwork in packs whenever a new Wes Anderson picture comes out, will probably not be thrilled with this revisionist fairy-tale spectacular spectacle. I wound up being much more taken with it than I had anticipated, thanks in no small part to its secret weapon. More in my review at MSN Movies.
Sorry for the lack of blogging this week. Last week was marked by the unexpectd death of the author of the below literary interlude, a college friend I hadn't laid eyes on in about twenty years; long story. Then I took the Memorial Day weekend off, for real, and now I'm doing a bit of traveling. First to the lovely Berkshires to participate in a panel, and late tomorrow to Long Beach Island for the Lighthouse FIlm Festival. Looks like I won't have a Blu-ray Consumer Guide for May (indeed, as each minute passes it seems less and less tenable) but June? Why not. I supposed we'll find out!
