I thought Rio was kind of okay for the most part, I guess, but man did it make me wanna watch The Three Caballeros. On Blu-ray. On which it is not. At the moment. My review of the latter-day film for MSN Movies is here.

Why do you think a blu-ray for CABALLEROS likely-never-to-occur? Is it just a lack-of-interest-on-the-part-of-the-general-public kind of thing? I mean, it's not SONG OF THE SOUTH.

Oh, yes, Three Caballeros on Blu-ray would be a beautiful thing. Years back, Disney released a spectacular laserdisc box set on Caballeros, which was loaded with fascinating extras, and is one of the main reasons I keep a functioning laserdisc player in the house. The recent documentary "Walt and El Grupo" covered the background on Disney's South America projects. The DVD included Saludos Amigos as an extra (not alas on BR) so I don't think it's out of the question that Caballeros will see a new release. Oh, and BTW, I think the lyric "We're three happy chappies with snappy serapes" is as good as Sondheim.

There are plenty of extras on all Disney's laserdisc box sets, right up to the last one (Hunchback of Notre Dame), most of which never made it to DVD.

Now I must go out an watch Three Caballeros. I am sure I must have seen it as a kid (one of my favourite shows growing up was The Wonderful World of Disney - it must have played on there at some point in the seventies, right) but I do not recall, and the image you put up must be seen with all its friends strung together.

Did you see "The Conspirator," Glenn, and if so, is there a review forthcoming?

It seems Rio's idea was borrowed from Children's book, Blue the Bird On Flying.
